2A THE BAXTER BULLETIN, Mountain Home, Ark. Tuesday, July 2, 2002 Hall retires from Y-S after 30 years By ANN WORSTER Bulletin Correspondent YELLVILLE Carol Hall officially retired Sunday, ending her 30-year career with the Yellville-Summit School District. School Board members Bryan Jefferson, Janie Pugsley, Richard Grissum, Tad Ott and Steve Copeland presented Hall with a plaque of appreciation that read "In recognition of thirty years of dedicated service to the Yellville-Summit School District on behalf of the students, faculty, administration and patrons of the Y-S schools. We thank you and wish you a happy; retirement." Hall received the plaque at the annual end-of-the-year recognition program held in late May. Hall said she was "shocked and speechless" when Y-S staff held a surprise retirement party at 178 Club i in Bull Shoals May 16.

She said she received a beautiful clock-jewelry box and many cards from the staff. She said family and friends went to great lengths to ensure the party was a surprise. Hall said she began her career with Y-S as a teacher's at the elementary school in 1972. She said the superintendent at that time was Don Page, and Nellie Keeter was serving her last Carol Hall's 30-year career District officially ended Sunday. Prior to retirement, Hall said she requested and was thankful someone was hired before her official last day "so I could help through the transition." Janice Barrett was hired to fill the district treasurer's position. "I worked with a lot of good people in a good school system, and I had a lot of help along the way. It is important to like what you do," Hall said. Hall said her history with Y- School District goes back further than 30 years. Her father, Harold Doshier, graduated in 1932.

Hall, her husband, Garry, and their daughter, Lorna Goodwin and her husband, Danny, also graduated from Yellville-Summit. She said, "My grandchildren attend there now." For the past 12 years, Hall has been a member of the local, state and national organizations of Educational Office Professionals and has served as an officer in the local and state organizations. She received certification by the Arkansas Association of School Business Officials and was chosen 1996 Outstanding Office Professional of the Year by the state association. That led to her nomination for that designation in the national organization. "I was proud to be chosen at the state level and honored to be nominated in the national organization," Hall said.

Hall said she is "looking at retirement as a positive change," and is looking forward to having more time to spend with her mother and grandchildren. She said she also will have more time for "things at home" and her participation in the community choir. "I will be as busy as I want to be," Hall said.
